Tanks in mountains - good luck

Afghanistan isn't just mountains....A quick look in Wiki would tell you that tanks do have their place there....
Taliban are not stupid. They know where is good a good place to operate and where not. After all they have been trained by the USA

Yeah but Taliban know that so they stick to the terrain where they can even the odds at least a bit.

True but they also know that hiding in the mountains all the time actually does nothing for them. There are countless vids online of battles in flat terrain.

This isn't black and white. Tanks are good there in some places and not in others...

Why would they want to do something? You think that those poor buggers in the mountains have anything to do with those who blew up the twin towers (if those were Taliban in the first place)?

Afgan is their home (well they have people form abroad but still). They don't want to rule the world. All they want is to survive and don't be told by coalition force what to do.
And what is the best way to survive if you face overwhelming force? Go in the mountains/ heavily wooded areas. Partisan style.

I know... But why would you want to chase 5 Talibs with Leo2... it cost money and you can get blow up by random IED and in the end that is what they want you to do. So you run out of money and leave sooner or later.
Infantry is much cheaper.

I'm not denying that tanks are not useful. They were useful in Desert storm. They are far less useful in Afgan.

You know, we did take out the tanks formations from the Afghanistan during the war. But we did have tank regiments there during the initial invasion.

Tank battalions (in MRR) were seen as sufficient to support the motostrelki.
