SU-25. Again, props to the A-10 but they did NOT have the enemy the Soviets had in the 70s-80s. The taliban sure had stingers but they were completely negated by the amount of air power supplied by the.. how many countries' aircraft? Oh i'd say at LEAST a dozen countries. Again, go to KAF and you'll see how much air power is there. The soviets just didn't have the airpower to dominate like the US AND its allies.
US and allies, maybe not. But if we speak of WP vs NATO combat within central theater and combined arms counter air operation, then it was more than possible, conditions considered.
I was just talking about the AK theatre. The soviets only had the one full army with a supporting division, numbering about 100,000 soldiers. The US ALONE has at LEAST 100,000 troops PLUS the tens of thousands sent from other countries, more airpower, more armoured power, more special mountain troops, more TECHNOLOGY... and lets be frank. The technology of the 70s-80s PALES in comparison to what is available now. Combat UAVs (NON-prototype), GOOD Night-vision that works (if you've ever tried the old night vision goggles and compare them with the new, you'll know what im talking about), 2000lbs GPS guided bunker-busting bombs, light-weight armour technology, medical first-response technology.. the list goes on. Trying to compare the current occupation of AK with the soviet occupation may sound good in theory and on faux news, but the facts just don't lend any credence to them being "the same war".
