So going back prior to the conception of WON I've been dying to try WEE using proper Order of Battles (OOB) as opposed to the generic resupply ad hoc unit/battle system native to the game. I've run two tests with a friend and it was very interesting and totally different than a normal WEE game. This is what I am suggesting.

When: Weekend of the 12th/13th (date/time TBA)

  • The idea is based on the scenario of two generic infantry battalions clashing
  • Both sides are mirrored as close as possible
  • Players are told what to buy
  • Players cannot buy new units during the battle
  • Zones are rendered irrelevant
  • The units a player controls is determined by the battalion's hierarchy
  • Winner is the side that destroys x% (probably 50 or 60) of the other sides "value" first

Unit lists

I haven't made an image of the proper structure but basically, the unit lists above represent a generic Infantry battalion for each side. It would look something like:

-Battalion
----Infantry Company
--------Infantry Platoon 1
------------Infantry Section 1
------------Infantry Section 1
------------Infantry Section 1
------------Infantry Section 1
--------Infantry Platoon 2
...etc...

Each player would be playing the role of (most likely) a company commander. So the infantry company commander would control all the infantry while the armor commander would control all the armor. There are sub categories and cross category splits too (arty, AA) but this will hopefully be determined over then next few days.

People that have played in WON battles and scrimmages will already be familiar with some of the concepts here but this is open to all.

If you are interested in trying this alternate way to play WEE, post here. If you have any questions, feel free to post and I'll try to answer them as quickly as possible. If you have any ideas or suggestions...also feel free to post...

Thanks and I hope this flies!

Will you add objective to force people to meet or is it gonna be S&D only ?

We used scenario based missions in WON Scrimmages and they worked very well. I suspect that this will also be used here too but maybe not for the first PMB. S&D (meeting engagement) battles are nice and simple so...

For this battle I'm trying to keep things 100% USA vs CCCP. In the future (assuming this even works and is liked) I'd like to expand things a little. I'd also really like to host a armored battalion clash with 75-150 tanks/armored units per side...but that's down the road...

I'm definitely interested, but do players have to use voice chat? I have a pathological aversion to it :? .

You don't have to but it is highly encouraged as it makes coordination and communications so much easier. We've had people text before but...it's never as good.

Good to hear Serial and Quiggle...I'll let this thread ferment a few more days and then we start working on teams and times.

Sounds great. I'm interested.

One question: are all players allowed to bring in supply vehicles or is it limited to whoever controls the vehicles?
