I'm sure many of you RTS veterans have played or at least heard of Sudden Strike with its haydays after the release of Sudden Strike Forever? :)

What made this game so great in my mind was how multiplayer worked, where you were given certain units as predetermined by the mapmaker. And that reinforcements were only received over time as the game went on or when you captured a combination of territory (flags) in the field.
The benefits of this system over selecting your own units are that any kind of abusive spam or what have you is eliminated as you get a set of units and you have to work with that. Obviously the mapmaker had to do some balancing there to make sure that each side has a fair amount and quality of stuff.

It also allows for a more realistic/historical approach to mapmaking where you might have a lot more of the cheap content instead of only the high end tanks for example. Thus seeing a clash of bigger armies on the field where outmanouvering is more important then establishing a front line and calling in arty.

I would love to see this as a new game mode in this game personally. :) I think it will give a new challenge to the game where you have get the most out of the units that you get. Being a real commander that doesnt just gets whatever he wants, but has to deal with what he has received. :)

Win conditions could be the capturing of all territory or the elimination of the enemy's units, where I guess the first is more likely to happen considering the way woods work in this game. :D

Mmmm, Sudden Strike forever :D Brings back memories :)

I think as a game mode this would be really cool and it shouldn't take an insane amount of time to implement since everything is really in place to script such a mode.

What would really help is if modding/map making tools were released to the community..that way such a game mode could even be generated in the short term instead of waiting for an official gamemode to be produced by Eugen.

Lol, they do? :D
, does it look decent for the current day and age then? :) Because I have loaded it up sometimes again but had to turn it off quickly again.. :) I like the memory I have of the game and better not ruin it with my current day expectations of graphics and the like.

maps doesnt change much, but the modders made some new objects and units and changed teh realsim a little bit. so t34 cant penetrate a kingtiger from front now. grafik cant be compared with today but for an 1o year old game it is decent.

Nice. :)
I did check out Sudden Strike 3 as well when it came out btw.. but it just wasnt working as smoothly as it should have. Kind of a pity that they didnt get a sequel up to par with the first series of the game.

Would be nice to relive those times in this game though. :D

Yes this type of mode would be awesome, aka a scenario mode.

Same type of play is available in TacOps, you start with a predefined ORBAT and you get some replacements as you go. Same thing in The Operational Art of War III.
