Just wondering if we can get a discussion going regarding the command units...

PACT - BRM-1K - 260 points, 1/1/0/0/ armor

NATO - M577G - 220 points, 2/1/1/1 armor

They both go 60kmph, the BRM-1K has slightly better armaments but if you're thinking about the ability of a command veh to fight you're doing something wrong IMO. What I really care about is armor as I am sure %99 of players are.

What is the ethos behind this? I am rather curious. Also, I am not complaining, I'm just wondering why.

BRM-1K also has Exceptional optics. It's a recon unit by itself.

Yeah, but do you want to risk it? It's over 200 points for a recon unit that the enemy will want to target very quickly because of the big command star next to its name.

Pretty much the above. No weapons also mean that a single helicopter/ground unit will do whatever it wants against the american left on its own.

The exceptional sights is a great advantage if hiding in hedges, even if poor if hiding in forests.

It is true that the strongest armored command units of Nato are a little sturdier than the ones of Pact, but Pact outshines Nato in other areas instead. I often keep a supply truck (with Pact machine guns where available :)) with my command units. Unless the command unit gets one shotted, the truck can repair it quickly.

Top 1 armor mean command units not vulnerable to helicopter MG fire. Interesting how many inches of armor was on top of M577 if T-34-85 with same 1 armor had 45mm at 45 degrees. Same for side and back armor, invulnerable to 14,5 APC HMG.

Exceptional optics help the nearby AA assets quite a bit. Though you have to set up in the open field or forest border for this.

You also have to consider something else, availability. PACT has a BDRM-2U with 4 slots, enough to replace your starter and get a few extras, while also having at least 1 front armor and 10 health (infinitely stronger then a jeep from the get-go).

All of NATOs vehicles have an availability of 2, which requires you to A. keep your command jeep around for 3 commands, or use 2 deck slots. I know most people don't spawn more then 2 commands anyway but some games can be decided by that increase in points. Nothing matters to me but armor, health, and availability, because any time your command vehicle needs to shoot at something itself with a MMG, your probably already screwed.

And 1 top armor means it's not susceptible to the miniguns on Hogs or Cobras, but anything 20mm and up will still get you, besides they fact they all carry more then enough rockets.

This is the big benefit of the unit, I think.

I have remarked that the Pact command units don't have any MG. It makes them a little more vulnerable to air attack, but I'm not sure that it's a decisive disadvantage.
