Hi guys, once again just some casual reading up on actual units in real life. This time it is about the speedy little OSA or SA-8 Gecko, a nice AA missile platform once vetted.

I'm pretty sure these guys are radar guided (they got that big dish on the vehicle), but the ingame missiles are listed as Infrared tracking. Maybe a slight tweak in the missiles for this vehicle?

By the way, there's no difference between the two guidance systems right? I vaguely recall the manual states you can shoot and move afterwards with both Radar and Infrared missiles...

Radar has a longer range than Infrared.

Would be a nice little unit if it had Radar instead. Still terrible base accuracy and low missile count though.

OSA is not too shabby, but the MT-LB Strela-10 on the other hand...

The SA-8s were one of the first vehicles to have their radar actually a part of the launch vehicle, at least for USSR SAMs. They should be radar guided and tbh their accuracy is pretty poor given that the later missiles were referenced at a rather decent hit percentage.

A lot of those "radar-guided" missiles that the USSR had were, in fact, command guidance. This goes for the 2K22's missile as well.
IMO, it's a shame the 9K330 Tor/SA-15 isn't in the game.

You are saying the truth, the OSA use command guidance. The first soviet missiles used pure command guidance, but latter missiles switched to another more accurate terminal phase guidance. The only pure soviet infrared missiles present in the game are the Strelas, Igla and Strela-10. I actually think that the OSA is probably too inaccurate on a realistic side, but I think it's a balance choice. About the Tor missile, the reason that it isn't in the game is probably because it entered in service in 1986, one year after the end date of the game and probably because it would be too powerful .

Quite a few vehicles in the game entered service after 1986, notably the Mi-28. Hell, the Havoc didn't even fly in prototype form until 1988, and was beaten by the Ka-50 in trials (IMO the Ka-50 should have been in the game instead). I rather assumed the "end date" would be something like 1989 or so.
