Hello,

I'm blocked in the Ramstein airbase mission. You have to survive 25 minutes and there is a secondary misson which ask to hold the foward bases. I'm not able to make them stand. They are overrun after 2 minutes and those dragon ATGM are really crappy, they don't hit anything. The middle one and the one of the left are the most hard pressed and they have heavy losses before I am able to reinforce them. How do you hold those bases?

I'd like some help as well... I don't seem to have enough points to throw in units by the time the enemy shows up (I buy three commands early to cap three more sectors and rake in points). Pre-deployed units seem to evaporate under the enemy, and whatever I do send doesn't get there in time.

I haven't used choppers that well... maybe I should try using Kiowa Warriors and AH-1E Cobras? They might be able to head off the enemy attacks... Or maybe chopper-lifted infantry or spec-ops (which I haven't unlocked yet... torn between getting Deltas, MLRS, or Apache next)

I won it the lame way the first ime, by retreating eveyone, and survived by a hair (liek three units)

On the second try, I had unlocked a ton of units in multiplayer, and got it with all bonuses, the easy way. Leo pard variants won the day.

I should perhaps fall back all my units then, but it will hard to resist without the command zones. However, there is a large plain. Perhaps with artillery I could rout the advancing Soviet Army. But there is also a cliff line which will give a good view of the battlefield to the Soviets. I'm not sure I will be able to build a strong defensive line the two middle command zones.

Cobras and a lot of supply trucks were the cornerstone of my defense. Actually, I was pushed off the center defense point and despite the secondary objective stating I had to hold it, I still got credit for "achieving" it!

Honestly, i'm not a big fan of air units, but I think that it would very useful since they are fast. Thanks for the advice. A fast reserve would be very useful since the pace of the attacks is insane. And you were lucky to have such a positive bug. :)

Yep, I bought myself 3 art to hit them and also got myself 3 cobars as well. Apart from that keep ur units in place and spread them out. Use resupply helis and exploit the fact that your trucks can sit behind your troops and heal/rep them.

When you finally start getting pushed back, stagger you retreat, keep los on enemy and hit them with arty and air assets.

Hope that helps.

I dont remember how, but I somehow 1-shot this mission with all objectives achieved :x

I do recall using a squadron of cobras + arty, and the newly-introduced M1IP's (losing one of the latter, sadly). You wont hold the enemy at your forward points, so I just fell back to better positions with them once I had made contact. I'd say overall, I did what prophet did and it worked marvelously :)

You have three forward locations that are individually too weak to stand. You can reinforce one location to the point that it'll hold, but you don't know where the enemy will hit you. What's the solution?

Textbook solution is below. A few spaces added in case you want to try it yourself first.

...

Use a force multiplier that's called reserve. Stiffen up resistance in each of the locations just enough that it forces the enemy to commit (as compared to just driving past). Have a fast, mobile reserve at hand. Once you spot the enemy (and the further away you see him, the better your chances) commit your reserve into the fight. Destroy enemy attack (not necessarily all their forces) and pull out enough troops to form a new reserve. Make sure you resupply your troops generously: without fuel or ammo they're as good as dead. If you get more units into field, decide whether your reserve has enough punch to it. It's better to have too few forces in local defense than in reserve.

Was annoying because the computer basically just sends all of his units to everywhere that you aren't, and he has so many units you cant hold every flank. I had a pretty solid distributed defence and was using a lot of choppers to resupply my many TOWs on all of the IFVs. After a couple of losses though to a huge force suddenly appearing at the base, I ended up with my usual defense far upfield and added multiple cheap recons around the airbase and 6 Challenger/Abrams reacting to threats, as well as bringing in inf reinforcements where the enemy was probing. Every time I reacted, the computer pulled away and didnt fight me, so I kept moving to where he was about to push the base and never actually had to fight his breakthrough force before the time ran out.

I think the key to the mission, then, is recon.
