While forests have drastic improvement on infantry's performance, how are tanks' defenses affected by forest cover. Often times, I have to choose between bunching my tanks with infantry in a forest (making my force more vulnerable to artillery, and easier to flank) or spreading vehicles out of the forest, reducing the blob but putting vehicles in the open.

Do forests have a significant effect on the larger vehicles other than adding stealth?

They move slower and can get "stuck in mud"

Putting tanks deep inside a forest will block their LOS. You have to keep them on the edges, where they are more easily spotted, for them to attack at all.

The critical thing is.. they are not houses... they are not limited to stay there. You na hide them and when enemy expose flank you move them out and surprise them.


Also you can retreat to inside forest. This tactic is usefull if you have a few superior tanks and need to grind a larger force but must retreat to avoid overhelming counter attack. But dont move them in and let them sit there,,, move them in to loose LOS and keep them moving into a scape route !!!

Also tanks that moved inside a forest but were not spotted moving out are usually VERY effective at drawing missile barrage fire into the forest wasting enemy resources.

It also seems to effect the accuracy/effectiveness of shots which are incoming to the forest. In my experience, a single line of tanks four tanks can take at least twice as many of the same quality units as they advance on them. In the case of infantry, urbanized areas offer huge amounts of protection, but that's another matter completely.

As a second thought, the only detriment to placing your vehicles inside of a forest is the factor of the unknown. If the enemy can't enter the forest without you knowing, this isn't a problem, but in some cases I can see the possibility of an exposed flank. Often, though, this fear is much like the same fear you get bombing a hill on your preferred mode of transportation: there's a comfort zone, and you can ride the razor's edge sometimes.

I used to put a'lot of my units in the forest's including tanks but found out fast that artillery will wipe them out so now i space my Inf out instead of bunching and keep my tanks out of forests as there does not seem to be any advantage of keeping in there while fighting might stop them from being spotted tho when static for a'bit and not engaging enemy forces.

What are the downsides of placing your tanks in fields or hedgerows? Because for now I've only moved my units from forest bunker to forest bunker. Using hedgerows as well. But when there is no hedge or forest available. Should I ignore the area or still set up a defensive line?

I imagine its more important to put up a forward recon unit so I can at least see whats coming my way. Might be less important when in a forest since your hidden. I guess my question is: Do forest add some sort of armour value to units? Can they survive longer in a forest compared to when they are on a grass field.

I'm not sure if they add any defensive bonus, but hedgerows are a lot better, IMO, than putting armour in forests. At least a hedgerow will make the armour a little more difficult to detect, but generally not hide any advancing enemy forces. In the forest, while the armour will be more difficult to detect, they can be easily destroyed by infantry moving around them, and you won't see the enemy infantry (since they're very stealthy in woods) until it's too late. If you try to speed away, you run the chance of being bogged down in mud, etc. I'll put armour in a well-guarded woods far back from the line where I am fairly certain it is safe, but not where I expect the enemy might approach.
