What are the benefits of controlling zones except that they can be used to bring reinforcements? Are your units defending a sector controlled by you have some premium to defence? Do you get additional points by taking command over a zone?

Maybe it's a noob question but I don't remember it being in the manual.

I am pretty sure that it works as follows: 4 point sector = 4 points of reinforcements every second.

If you have 4 team-mates... 1 point each per second.

a 4 zone is 4 point every 4 sec...

and how can I know how many points a sector has?

A Big number in the zone next to its designation. ie: Foxtrot 4 or Bravo 4

Normally, the zones in the center at the higher numbers as they are the hardest to control.

On a side note slightly related to this; controlling too many sectors is a bad idea as it over extends you.

...and controlling too few is a bad idea as you don't have enough income!

I didn't know the points get divided among more players, is this true?
