This game is great. This game also kicks my ass from here to Tuesday. I did ok on the first SP mission, took about 9 tries for the second, and am soo stuck at the 3rd. Any of you pros able to give tips for SP play? I'd really appreciate it! : )

I guess the most players which are kinda new to the game (and gametype) will have problems that if you lose units in a mission before (so in your case in mission 1 and 2) you won't have them available in the next mission.

So to go smoothly through all mission try to avoid losses.
The easiest way to do taht is to use your recon units to scout ahead (but be carefull dont lose them) and move from cover to cover with your tank formation.

It's all about decisions in this game and it really is one of the hardest singleplayes i have played for a long time (which makes it the best i played for a long time because i like challenges)
The AI also will go for your weakest point when they attack you so don't spread out to thin.

Edit: and if you find yourself having issues with getting all stars in one mission try getting them in a few playthroughs you don't have to do them all in one try (well, i try to make them all in one try but it doesn't always work)

Good tips! It also helps that when I was replaying the first mission I learned how to get reinforcements... Should have known that from the get go ><

You can also save during single player and reload. So save after each engagement and reload if you lose a unit. Cheap but effective.

Remember also to support the units that you have put on the field. I usually play the SP missions by setting up a spearhead into an area with armor and recon (recon is CRITICAL) and a little bit of infantry, fighting the battle and then reinforcing the troops that did the fighting. After my reinforcements are in place, I will then pull the units that I fought with off of the line and send them back to a FOB. This way I completely repair all of my (now veteran) units and I can send them back to the line and set up another offensive. Supply trucks will also work, but for large groups of units they can be inefficient.

This isn't the fastest way to play the game, but I get a lot of satisfaction out of trying to keep my units alive and levelling them up.

Never forget though, recon recon recon! If the enemy spots you before you see him, you're dead. Recon also allows your units to engage at their maximum possible range as long as they have a clear line of sight.

If you restarted the campaign, try to unlock the Gazelle recon. It will make your life MUCH easier (and most levels in the first campaign have VERY few AA to kill them). But play it safe anyway, they are a great asset.

When going through the campaign, always check missions to see what units are allowed before you spend your Stars. Note that you have maximum number (it's listed) of each unit type for the entire chapter. If your losses reach that maximum number, you won't be able to requisition any more, even in subsequent missions (until you start the next chapter). Likewise, experience gained carries over to subsequent missions, until the end of the chapter.

The first mission allows you to use up to the Leopard 1A4. Getting the Leopard 1A2 is a no-brainer. You can get it as soon as you finish the first objective in the first mission and then requisition four of them instead of getting more 1A1s. This allows you to go into the second mission with some experienced 1A2s. Unlocking the Leopard 1A4 after the first mission isn't a bad idea. The game even allows you to replay the first mission and use four 1A4s instead of the 1A2s if you want. Then you'll have experienced 1A4s instead of 1A2s. The Leopard 1A5 is not available for use yet so don't bother spending a Star on it (they probably don't want you one-shotting the T-34s and T-55s).

The Luchs is a superior recon unit, but you don't need it for the first mission. Don't unlock the upgraded Luchs because it isn't useable in the early campaign.

Unlocking the first upgrade for the German AA is helpful for the second mission. They can help kill infantry at range and they can gain experience if you unlock them after the first mission to use in the second.

Definitely unlock the Gazelle recon helicopters after the 2nd mission to use in the 3rd mission.

Hi all.

A couple of things - is there a list of what resources / equipment IS useable / unlocked during each battle of the SP to try to "save" unlocking unuseable kit - eg I unlocked apache, and its not available...

Did I explain that well? Basically, I "wasted" a lot of stars (important in early game, IMO) buying kit that I couldn't use in SP, sooooooo, I was asking if there's a definative list of what equipment will be available for EACH mission in teh SP game, please, for both sides?

Thanks in advance. :)

When you select a mission and click on the Next button, it displays a list of units that are usable in the mission before you start. Unfortunately, it only lets you see the list for the mission you're currently on, so you can't plan ahead.

If you check the walkthrough available on this site: http://thegameguru.me/2012/02/24/wargam ... on-curtian, I added which units are added for each mission in the first chapter.

Smashing - thanks Trifler. Sorry to be a PITA, and not want to belittle your work - have you or anyone else done it for any of the other missions? Thanks mate 8-)
