I bet his superiors were amazed how he managed to land a C-17 on such a small runway. At least it's a great example to show off it's STOL (short landing or takeoff) capabilities. :D

Most such aircraft can land and takeoff from short and unprepared airfields. In fact it is a condition for any russian/soviet aircraft around pretty much.

The C-130 has always been good at short landings/takeoffs from unprepared runways. The C-5 also has that capability to some degree, but it is rarely used since the aircraft is something of a pig to maintain.

Wow.

That's quite a few tonnes stopping on only a few hundred meters.

Well, i guess technical difficulties do happen.

Three men enter a room. One mentions to the other "Hey there, did you hear about the C17 landing on that tiny airfield? PRETTY CRAZY STUFF!"

The second guy nods a bit "Yep, pretty wild."

The third guy busts out "RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS YOU GUYS."

Which of these three people is most likely to be ikalugin?

Too funny - so Russian frequently land at the wrong airports? My guess they are drunk.
