This is going to be cool. Not only do we get to see some Russian aircraft flying with their own doctrines (as much as anyone can given a simulated war game, anyway), but it's also a big statement regarding relations between Russian and Western Europe (and America).

It'd be interesting if the VVS (I think that's the acronym for the transliteration) plays the role of the "Aggressors", and how they fly compared to how our "Aggressor" squadrons do the job. Given that in past Red Flag exercises, different nations took the job of "Aggressor" for different missions, I wouldn't be surprised if Russia does the same.

In any event, I look forward to it.

1) No F-22, huh?
2) Probably, Su-30 will fly without radars, EW and flares, like Indian do in all their exercises with potential enemy.
3) When our Su-27 was in Langley in 1993, they kicked F-15D like babies, and honest Americans nearly killed our pilots. They filled our Flankers with poor-quality fuel then asked us to fly on 13km altitude. Engine fail happened, on both engines on both planes and our pilots fall to 3km high before there they managed to launch engines again.

1) maybe.
2) but then if there are F22A and F35, we might as well use Su35S, they are targeted at export anyway. But this has to be mutual. That said, French always get elint data even on NATO exercises
3) yes Su27S was better in close dogfight than F15C/D, but the fuel story is incorrect. They filled us with standard US fuel, which is less dense. However, due to smaller range of F15C they asked to fly at higher altitude, as otherwise they won't be able to fly over.
The only mistake was that they did not tell us about fuel being different.

Depends, you can place the nessesary spin on anything.

But I doubt that either side would show full capability, as it can damage the security around the technologies used.
For example if Su35S does detect F22A about 100km away without the lenses it would make USAF very, very but hurt.

Ohh, this is going to be good! I would really like to see SU-35's against them Raptors (not that they are comparable), but I assume this won't really happen.

If both sides have their proper support (F22A in agressor role), then I see no issue for the Su35S.

The issue is that of operational security, I doupt that either side would be willing to operate radars, especially the americans (as Su35S is ultimately an export aircraft).

Yeah, the exercise is pretty lame if its just a bunch of jets buzzing around without being able to use their radars. Though it makes sense (op security etc)
