Huh... and what's that role for 120 points??

Well, flanking maneuvers/mobility, that stuff. Kind of obvious, I think.

70 km/h max speed. 900 km op. range, 7/5/2/2 armour. Good optics. Normal size.

Compare it to the NATO tank with the same price, the Leopard 2:

70 km/h max speed, 500 km op. range, 9/4/2/2 armour. Poor optics. Big size. Actually rather similar.

The T-72B has decent ATGM in addition. But a slightly less precise main gain and an HMG instead of an MMG. It has worse front armour but better side armour. Another indicator that it's not meant as another "head on" tank. It is smaller (thus more difficult to spot). It has good optics which allow it to spot opposition earlier. In my eyes this is clearly meant as a tank for flanking maneuvers. The bad stabilizer hurts a bit but on the other hand you will have to stop to use the ATGM, anyway.

Well, I must say it's actually not a bad point...

It's still 120 points on a flanking tank. That's a job you usually spend 20-75 points on (Zhalo, T-64). The 120 points are rather needed for your primary MBT.

You are right, my mistake. Still it is better then the reference I used (Leopard 2) which is the only point I wanted to make.

The point is that the T-72B is different from the T-80 or T-64 and usable in its role. Whether or not it is useful to you is an entirely different matter and depends on your taste/way of playing. Just because the tank doesn't fit the way you use higher end MBTs doesn't mean it's useless. And I admit that I don't use the T-72B often since I like to spend my money on T-80s/T-64s too. ;-)

EDIT: Btw. with "flanking maneuver" I don't mean going 500m to the right to catch to some tank's side armour but real maneuvers over half the map for example. For this, the Zhalo is a relatively poor choice.

Just use the basic T-72 model as a meatshield, with their armor they can stand several hits.

Yeaaa... but acc and ROF is so terrible that I use T62s, T64s and BMP 685s. I must try again as it seems...

I do actually, but I use the german version because it is cheaper and because of that I don´t get T-72B.

The basic t72 is very nice I think. Good armor and ap for the price make it an efficient defensive tank. In attack it's not quite as good due to low acc, but can still sponge damage. The current heavy tank meta hurts it a lot though, if you move them to get side hits they wont hit anything until they stop, and even then they cant reliably land their shots. But against other medium tanks I find it an ideal defender.

The DDR version is indeed cheaper bur I don't bother with those, their weaker armor makes them less efficient in the role I use them in.

8acc 11AP ATGM with 4 missiles, 2275 gun - even if its inaccurate, it gives it a bit of potential ooomph, Normal size - compared to large - this takes away 5% from the % chance to be hit compared to T80 line & makes it a little harder to recon. 7 front is plenty armour - it means you wont get one shotted from front armour and only a crit at max range from AP10 in the side is going to one shot you.

Compared to the T64 - its the same speed as the Leo 2A4 so you can actually run away - whereas the Leo 2A4 will catch a T64BV - it wont catch the BM however, but thats what makes the BM quite useful as well. However, T64s also have terrible fuel efficiency.

Compared to the T80 line - yes the BV is 20 more and is better equipped - but you only get 2, the T72B is more of a line tank - you can call is 8 and you're smaller.

Also - 900km range - almost twice as much as any other 2275 tank (most have 500km) for only 150% of the fuel useage - so you can keep on trucking and use less supplies in the process.

All in all, an excellent ATGM carrier against heavy tanks that can fend off lighter targets on its own.
