@ kovlovsky:
You are right. ATM, the main reason more advanced versions of cheap tanks are used by the ATGM. Peronally, when I need ATGMs I use vetted MT-LB Shturms, or havocs.
I find that T-55AMVs are seriously undearmored for their price. They can be one-shot from front hits by most weapons if they get a critical, and if not two shots from any respectable tank will do the trick. Oh and after the patch Bastions aren't 10 accuracy no more.
T-62M-V, well, its not "seriously underarmored" but just "underarmored". Has a great ATGM, but again, I think its more interesting to get a dedicated ATGM platform instead. It has an OP main gun, 8/9/3 is too much for a 115mm round (oh come on its the same AP that best 125mm ammo), but its slower to fire, slower to move, and consumes more fuel.
Maybe it's a personal preference, but I prefeer spending a little more points on an already expensive units and ensure that they have enough armor to survive if I make a tactical error sometime.

@ ericdude88:
I didn't say that T-64BVs can not be used offensively, but you have to be cautious, almost paranoid. They survive no errors in that role, as flank shots are common behind enemy lines. Just support them well, and recon, recon and recon. Ofensively speaking, I think T-80 series are more adequate, if u need a heavy into enemy territory.
I would like to see your replays. Im sure I'll be learning something useful from them!

@ danuuker:
I think t-64 series only fired the 9M112 kobra ATGM. Don't know if in RL they can fire the more advanced 9M119M Refleks ATGM like the modern T-80s (in fact Refleks is a modernised 9M119 Svir ATGM). But I didn't mind a little. Kobras are fine for me. As I said, if I want ATGMs I use dedicated units. But that's a personal preference.

[EDIT] Ukranian T-64BM BULATs use the "KOMBAT" ATGM produced there. Earlier T-64s used the 1A33 fire control system that only enabled to fire Kobras, like earlier T-80s. And read that T-80U ATGM was the REFLEKS, not the SVIR, as it was used by T-72B series.

Come on guys! Let's comment on in-game experience using the T-64 series. Or at least tell wou you were soundly defeated when these 2 t-64 bvs broke into your lines

T64's proved very capable yesterday in the last round of the Historical battle on the southern front near Jot especially. Same with their cousin the T80. Only really fell apart when AA proved insufficent and ATGM choppers came in :(

Re: T64, lest we forget:

In NATO, you load tank breech. In Soviet Russia, tank breech load you !

Yes, yes, I know, they fixed it later etc. etc. ;)

I'm finding that using two sections of 3 tanks each of the T-64BM is quite a solid core for your army if you keep them supported with T-55's or infantry. The Enemy will engage the filler and that will fix them in place for you to drop artillery on them, rocket sleds to stun then roll in the T-64BMs from two directions to quickly eliminate them. Several times my tanks have been shooting so much that they run out of cannon ammo!

Played a few games in the last couple of days using T-64A as my MBT in pairs or single units, deploying 6-12 each game. Used T-72 as secondary and T-55 AMV as support initially, but after a couple of games just went with T-64A and no other tanks. It is a very good tank, but a bit over priced for a PACT tank without ATGM.

Kill to loss ratio in tank battles is about 3:1 against the range of tanks NATO has to offer, against random players in 3v3 and 4v4. Used 2 pieces of tube artillery at ~5km range for close support, KUB for AA, and the usual scouts. Ate Leopard 1s and M60s for breakfast, and took out AMX-30s quick enough. MBT-70s were a reasonable challenge, it was pretty much an eye for an eye. However, had a lot of problems against Abraham and Challengers, the gun simply can't penetrate the frontal armor, and flanking is not always a good idea when he has much better stabilizers.

It a good tank, and I'm satisfied with the 3:1 kill ratio (only counting tank kills, not including vehicle and infantry kills). Against top tier NATO tanks (Challenger, Abraham, Leopard 2) the kill : loss ratio is about 1:2, which is still very respectable, but as their commander I always feel sorry for my soviet soldiers in those situations. It has good survivability against artillery, and good mobility. I don't like using T-80s or more expensive T-64s because they can't always kill their points worth.

I have started to play with this tank as main core for assault, and I use essentialy the first version which cost $55.

The thing that do I love it so mush is the base gun have 10 rate of fire instead of 7 like other tanks. I have just didnt notice that earlier.

my mainstay deployment tank for PACT is the T64BM, because it fits a nice role in either strongpoint defense or as a strong "assault support" role, rolling up behind an infantry carrier attack to provide heavy fire support (in lieu of artillery hitting strong targets that my infantry cannot reach, in open fields). Micromanaged a little bit, these guys are devastating. At first glance, an enemy might confuse them for a t62 and be foolishly aggressive. They have ample speed for long combat runs, and can ably retreat and advance at need without much need for resupply. The 20 shells for the main gun is a bit of a bummer, however. Late game when i usually have more points to spend, i might shell out for a T80 or 2 to up my attack abilities, but I find myself picking the t64 series because of the lower price (essentially, i hurt less when i lose one).

Good tanks, these.

I played a game last night where a teammate on the otherside of the map was using only T-64BM's. I was pretty shocked that at the end of the game he had ZERO point losses - he didn't lose a single unit of any kind all game! I watched the replay and although he did hold back a little and let the other teammate on that side do a lot of the hard stuff, he still got into alot of fights against quality NATO units. I've not tested it myself yet so maybe he got lucky, but it looks like it might be worth experimenting with so I've replaced those T-80's!
