Its kind of strange to see a small gazelle or kiowa to drop to the ground in one piece after bieng hit by a buk rather than desintegrating in the air :? . Is it possible to make helicopters explode completely in midair after bieng hit by a very large missile or suffering a critical hit?

Beside that, helis do not explode in real life. They crash.
That's because most AA missles actually detonate near the target to spray it with shrapnel thus damaging critical systems (rotors, engine)

Honestly, IMO one can list quite a few bugs in gameplay and stats that are way more importand than lack of proper animations.

Let em (devs...) work on priority stuff, not something like this, really.

Well, there's no real water in the game. It's just terrain with a "block passage" property and blue texture. You can tell from the arty/mortar explosions.

Actually, once we shot down a chinook with missiles and it fell down onto our command car and destroyed it!
