Hey,

I was hoping someone could explain to me the differences between recon units.

I find that helo recon is much better then armored recon as they can see much farther. I guess this is because they are on a higher elevation than infantry or armor recon. But my main concern is that armored, helo or infantry recon sometimes have trouble showing units hidden in dense forest or towns. Does anyone know a good counter to this, or which recon unit to use?

Also does anyone know how the quality of optics translates into siting distances from the recon unit to the enemy?

Thanks

Heli recons are good, but expensive and could easily be killed by enemy AA. So you can't rely fully on them, you need ground recon as well.

Btw, PACT has a recon with exeptional optics - BRM-1. The only one in the game.

He meant ground recon with exceptional optics. When you put it like that, BRM-1 PACT recon is the only one with those specs in game...

You can search the forums for the term "spotting ranges" to find the discussion, posts, and analysis on how terrain and quality of optics affect spotting.

He won't find much because the numbers concerning recon are no known.

The better the optics the further you will detect the ennemy. Then every obstacle reduce this detection. Being inside a bush hides you much more than being behind a bush.

Towns and deep forest are impossible to recon without being shot first. You have to sacrifice some infantry to take a look.

Not only one. There is BRM-1K Command Vehicle with this ability as well.

Even in close range (200-300m) rifle squad can be wiped out by invisible "house campers" :)
