Ah they were still in until a few years ago, then it was all about multicam and jungle shirts, and now that everyone is in multicam I predict that in about 2 - 3 years everyone will be wearing desert DPM and jungle shirts but in multicam Osprey/webbing.

Like the Romans, these Russkies are just downright unsporting.

He was making reference to 58 pattern webbing which could soak up roughly half a gallon of water per pouch, or felt that way anyway. A bit before your time i expect, it was before the cordura stuff came in.

lol Sorry i did use it when i was about 14 in the cadets some 13 years ago before they started getting the updated gear. One good thing about back in the 80/90's i guess there was no real body armor worth other than maybe the dual plate gear where you could remove both but was not that heavy anyway always remember the catterick boys pulling us up during training for removing the plates before tabs would have hated to have gone to war with it the plates where so small and just covered the middle of your chest nothing else but light lol.

Not sure when that stuff came into service.

Ah ECBA? That stuff is ridiculous, with a plate that sits just off centre on your back making it impossible to fit a bergen comfortably! Give me Osprey any day.

But Osprey is bloody heavy. Can't carry that comfy began very far if your legs drop off with exhaustion. ECBA isnt as useless as you seem to think, works in the "conventional war" scenario.

You get used to Osprey very quickly because it fits to your body rather well. Depends what type of infantry you're serving with as to how effective ECBA is, Light role I'd rather have neither and exploit the additional mobility, armoured I'd rather have Osprey.

How good are the ballistic plates in the ECBA? because in thickness compared with the Osprey ones they see somewhat flimsy.

This probably needs splitting off into 'off topic' for British Army discussions or something of that ilk.
