Hi everyone first post. One of the things I have been having a big problem with lately is people who micro helios. Im not a very good player so im probably just getting outplayed but whenever I try to go on the offensive with a group (I try to select a good build of units aa, tanks, inf etc) my aa is never able to be out in front cause it gets countered by enemy tanks, and when I keep the aa back behind my main battle tanks microd helios snipe at me all day long.

Ive been using mainly the roland 2 for nato and Tunguska for pact. Any advice is welcome as I feel pretty hopeless in these situations, sometimes the tanks just absorb the punishment, sometimes it guts me completely on the main line and leaves me open to counter attack. Like i said before this is mainly a problem for my attack groups on offensive and not such a defensive problem.

Tunguska with 3200m shooting range is perfect defence weapon, many rockets and high speed, and ih still can be locate behind your tanks.

As PACT, use BUK/KUB line of AA: They have great range. But keep on using the shorter ranged ones. With a bit of game experience, you don't need these extreme ranged ones, but until you feel confident, keep using them (They generally one-shot enemy helicopters).

As NATO, use chapparals (But keep them supplies) with veterancy of 4. Not as good as BUK, but they have great range.

Good luck.

Also anything with autocannon or HMG can provide a bit of air defense. Vulcans, Gepards, Marder 1, BMP2, VAB, Fuchs, AMX30 or Tunguskas with missiles turned off are good for that.
Also MANPADs (Igla, Stinger) in apcs, have them move with your tanks and unload when necessary, although i dont use that much anymore because Chaparrals/Buks behind your force and some Roland 2/TunguskaM or vetted OSAs is all the air defense you should usualy need. When you get overwhelmed by Helicopters, just retreat your expensive units and let the HMGs and autocannons deal with them while your missile AA snipes them.

this may take up a lot of deck spaces but i've yet to see it beat by a help spam
if u have 2 player in a 6000pt match i use 3 aa weapons
1 chap
2 rolands
2 vulcan/pivads
chaps are for sniping mi-9's
rolands for the dang havocs that as u say are microed
vulcans for the help spam as they tear anything up once its in range

for covering cv's i generally put 2 vulcans with them and sometimes even a chaparral depending on my money

I've heard the pivads kill helis much faster than the flakpanzer A1... I've been using the flakpanzers as my AAA because of the range, extra armor and stabilizer. Is the pivad much better?

Vulcan/Pivad is a lot better against helicopter spams, but they eat through their ammo fast. They are excellent if you know a spam is coming or can afford to keep extra supply trucks just for them. But usualy misslie AA and some automatic weapons is all you need. Vulcan is obviously great to defend CVs with FOB nearby.

WP:
- 1 full veteran BUK-M1 for longest range
- 1-2 Tunguska veteran 1-2
- 2 Strop 2 (just awesome ones, fast and effective!)
- 3-4 1500L supply truck

And then using MBT's what have 12.7 AA MG

Having BUK-M1 covering biggest area, being still middle of units but not in first row.
Tunguska at side to cover possible close range pop-up attack.
Strop 2 to drive at sides and front as they are fastest units, perfect for flanking groups.

And if helicopters comes, just get tanks behind forests or in middle of forest as soon helicopters comes to LOS, they get ripped a part by MMG.
