I looked at this game for ages. I did not buy it because I could not try it out (trailers are notoriously unlike the game and there weren't enough reviews that I trusted).

I hemmed and hawwed and looked for a demo to see for myself. Eventually, I found the game for $24 (on amazon of all places), and still prevaricated but eventually got sufficiently bored with my current games that I bit the bullet - for $24 I'll do that grudgingly, not for $40. Does that mean Eugen should make cheaper games? I'm sure we'd all love that, but realistically JUST MAKE A DEMO VERSION - I am not alone in guarding my hard earned cash - wherever and whenever possible I will always try the demo first. Post-demo, I'll often buy the game. In this case, Eugen/the distributors would have made 40% or so more out of me, as I sure would bought it for $40.

The second point is promotion - I found out about this by accident on Steam on one of those "other people bought this" sorta mini-ad's. Well-executed marketing can do amazing things, and amazing products without marketing can flop. Do some marketing!

agree

this is one of the best strategy games like ever, really needs more promotion to get more people playing it so it doesnt die over time

modding tools would be really good too, when ready, mostly so I can make a map that looks like a giant Hello Kitty

there is a wealth of information about any title released these days. from reviews to gameplay videos to forums etc. there really is no excuse for buying a game that isn’t for you. back in the day we’d be lucky to have a blurb and a couple of screenshots on the back of a box. I understand the desire for demos, but they can also be a mixed blessing (ie, not truly capturing the experience of the full game).

I haven’t tried a demo in almost 2 decades (original need for speed if I remember correctly) and I have no problems buying titles without them.

Yeaa but demo isn't suppose to give you experience of a full game... It present product for you like a test drive and I am pretty sure that reviews and gameplays won't give you that. However it is all part of marketing so you can be disappointed by any medium and thus product you have bought.
