T-80 line is overall better stats wise and for tank hunting in particular. But the T-64 line is a solid choise for filling gabs in your frontline or to be your workhorses due to their availability. And the BV can do about everything a T-80(A,B,BV) can do. I would take both if you can afford the slots.

I don't see the problem with just taking both.

Tigga's observations.

And confirmed by my observations : front armor seem to be reachable when you move out of the frontal 45° (= 22.5° on each side of the tank)
90° would be more realistic imo because reaching side armour with a 22.5° angle virtualy quadruples the thickness of your armour.

How do you test that ?

Use a T64BV as target for exemple (cease fire) you need one of your units in cease fire mode in front of the target to prevent it from turningg (tanks face the closest ennemy) then use a tank that can penetrate the side armor of the T64 but not it's frontal armor. Move your shooter perpendicularly to the direction faced by the T64. When your unit start shooting (side armor can be reached) stop it, mesure the distances and calculate the angle using trigonometry.

Agreed, this is really quite annoying :(

In fact it's not x4  it is 5a^1/2 (A is the armour thickness) it's close to x2.2

Does that mean that M1A1 for example has 7 armor value from angles greater than +30/-30 degrees?

Yes. But shots fired only proves possibility to hit side armor, some shoots still would hit front armor.

I think both front and side armor can be hit in that situation. I don't know the proportion.
