I had a roland.

The enemy ran his mi-8 into range. I thought to myself,"good bye sucker".

After 10s aiming, it launches a missile, miss.

That's ok, I got 9 more.

It fires again, miss.

The other guy obviously notices, and started to change his heli direction. In the time it takes for the heli to slow and back away, my roland fires again 3 time, hitting twice.

The mi-8 then went away. It came back a minute later with full health.

Meanwhile, whenever I use heli, I get 1 shotted from out of vision range.

Hi,

For my anti-air I get at the start of the match: 2 Chaparrel (vet3) [2 supply trucks along!], 2-4 Flakpanzers depending on the map. I also wield some autocannons (luchs, mbt70, etc.) and some infantry who can shoot air targets with their rifles. I leave 100-200 points in reserve!

After the game starts I recon as far as I can with a chopper to see my opponents unit composition and possible rushes beforehand.

IF I see a chopper rush:
1) stop your units to neares forest/cover
2) make sure your AA-units have a clear line of sight
3) call in either Rolands or any other AA-unit as many as you can.
4) create a flanking patrol of fast vehicles to go around the cloud of choppers to rush his base and end the game

-> haven't had problems with chopper rushes after the first week of playing :)

implying im a "new player" still learning the game.

You are just some resident self-titled expert who calls anyone noob for demanding improvement to the game. As evidently the current state of the game is obviouslt the best it can ever be (by your logic) therefore any call for changes = noobdom.

rofl, how can you deny your noobness when you've made this thread? anyone that had been playing for a while (and who doesn't have a brain injury) knows how to manage NATO AA.

there's nothing wrong with being a noob, we all started somewhere. but your post insinuates its the game's problem when quite clearly its your own. i know its hard to accept you suck, but the sooner you do the sooner you'll see improvement. only bad players blame the game.

lol. Chap is fragil and short on ammo.

You are putting 70 into a unit that dies to a random arty shot.

I guess you must be a genius and your solution is purrfect.

Chaps kill them dead, if you fear them dying easy buy 4 no vet, but beware the logistic horror of doing this

What fantastic mood there is in this thread. The problem isn't the AA, but rather that you were unlucky or bought the cheapest Roland. The Marder Roland is arguably the best AA in the game due to speed, resilience, accuracy and number of missiles. You need not more than the range it offers as the maximum range of any attack helicopter is 2626 meters.

The Chaparral because of it being unarmoured and inaccurate serves a different role. It covers a large area, and you can cover a greater, overlapping area by building more than one rather than paying twice as much in order to make it somewhat accurate. I don't see any reason in buying a veteran Chaparral when you risk a competent player shell it for one second and it suddenly be kaput.

Yes, a "network" of un-vetted Chaps are guaranteed to give enemy Helos a nasty surprise - though I don't find them a plobrem logistically, I just send a supply truck to them like it's on a milk round :D .
