Hi gents, I'm wondering if hulldown / partial defilade is modeled in any way. I've been using various reverse slope tactics but I'd like to know if there is anything special you have done for this.

At my knowledge, no and it would be a good idea to implement it. At this time, being on a higher ground only gives accuracy and field of you bonuses at my knowledge. The only game series that I know who have this feature is Combat mission.

I use reverse slope for Artillery defense, My command vehicles on several maps don't hide in the forests but rather in the open at the bottom of a hill.

I use slopes for Infantry to advance in relative safety.

Beyond that there doesn't seem to be any tangible benefit to hulldown fire positions or the like.

I think it's a good idea but it probably involves another cover type exclusive to terrain

only problem with hiding behind a hill is the rockets will go right through the hill to hit where they land, but then i guess your mostly stopping LOS anyways.

Yeah, due to how hills are modelled I dont think its useful sadly. Its a huge part of armored warfare, but oh well :(

Maybe a general terrain feature called "Defilade" would be of use in some areas to offer a protection bonus to tanks? Or would that be too gamey for most's taste?

One possibility might be that there could be a line of demarcation on hills where the turret could peek over but not the hull. You can get something of the same effect on hills but it doesn't quite work the same way.

Perhaps there could be terrain features like low thick walls and berms that would provide hulldown cover. Or you could argue that it's rolled into normal tree cover somehow. No big deal either way, I was just wondering if it was there.

I think this is more of a map feature - to my best knowledge there are only 2 proper hills in the whole game.

Also this would give advantage to the WP tanks, as they would have entrenchment equipment in real life, as well as TGM (thus it would be even harder for NATO player to attack).

True, but I think it would be balanced due to NATO tank's greater main gun depression making them better able to use hull-down positions.

Exactly and that's why soviet tanks had special equipement to dig entrenchment. They could "create" hulldown situations in plains or compensate their lesser main gun depression ability that diminished their capacity to exploit hills for that (it's due to their small silhouette).

Did Iraq utilize those in 91? Or were they simply buried tanks with turrets poking?
