Also, count on two games being played on Sunday. There might be slight differences between game settings but the map/teams/nations will stay the same.

It's of course possible the teams will be jiggered around a bit for game 2 to accommodate backups, people dropping out, new arrivals, all the contingencies that could pop up. But we'll strive to limit such switching to folks with well-developed unit pools who have volunteered for cross-faction play. If you worked hard to unlock a DDR or French deck for Sunday, we'll see to it that you get to use it.

I played a lot of solo just to unlock more units that I wouldn't usually use with smaller factions... I should have all but east Germany pretty soon.

Edit: I have every army now!

All unlocked: UK, BRD, CRRS, POL.
Fully Operational: FR, USA, USSR.
Almost empty: DDR.

Tried a game as Poland; It is crap.

If this is still actual I'd like to join as West Germany, USA, or Russia.

baretekpl - thanks for the ranking, you are on the roster.

DeuZerre - hang in there, these NSWP countries can still be assets with teamplay, forethought, and an aggressive spirit of initiative (think old school paratrooper mentality!).

Probably not recommended for regular pub play, though, unless you want to be a bad ass ;)

And away we go....

Opus and I have spent some quality time hashing out an initial proposal for War of Nations rules. This community is not going to be a dictatorship or a strict hierarchy, these rules are not set in stone, and we will not be surprised if they evolve as a result of play experience. Take a look, participate in the first couple battles, and then feel free to weigh in based on your game experience. We did put some serious thought into what was straightforward, fair and the best fit for our objective, and we'd like to maintain some stability in these rules over at least the first couple battle weeks to give them a stern testing. That said, have at 'em!

The Upshot:

We are attempting to adhere to 'One Player, One Flag' with as few exceptions as possible. Wargame in it's current form does force us to make some calls here. We are confident these rules are a good starting point, and are prepared to offer our rationale for anyone interested. Here are the main principals:

- All players may build their faction's FOB

- the CSSR and Poland may add the USSR BRDM-2U command vehicle to their logistics roster - no other command vehicles.

- The CSSR and Poland may use any foreign transports and helicopters that come attached to their national infantry. They may also add these, and only these, foreign transports to their vehicle and helo rosters.

- By our count, there are four 'multinational' lines of units - in a unit line flagged for country x, but there is a the variant flagged for country y. You may add these foreign unit lines to your deck to access your flagged unit, but may not call in the foreign units to the battlefield. This will of course be on the honor system - any violations and you will get a visit from the politruk ;)

That is it! Otherwise, if you have a flag next to the unit, it can be in your deck, if it has a foreign flag, it is not be.

I went to great pains to create a more formal rule list, posted below, laying this out in all its detailed glory; please check your deck against this list once you're done. PM me if you'd like a word copy over email.

Thanks for the commitment, you guys, this has been a great labor of love for both of us!

War of Nations Initial Unit Rules - Master List

This is a set of rules for the basic WoN format. It is intended to be a strict interpretation of the 'One Player, One Flag' principal with as few exceptions as possible.

More great news! Here are our suggested scenario settings - these are flexible, so after you've checked out the rules above, sound off.

Note: we do want to pin down map and point parameters early this week so we can get to the good stuff ASAP: formalizing teams and deciding strategy!

Map: Joint Strike

Points per Team: 4000

Timed Match: 60 Minutes

To echo Genosse, between a dozen emails, PMs and a 4hr TS gab-fest, I think we've hammered-out what will be an excellent first event. Between reviewing maps, units, force weights and other such nonsense, I believe that we'll have answers to most of your questions/comments/concerns.

Genosse will be posting an updated player/nation list Tuesday around 1800UTC and we hope to have the sides finalized by the end of the day.

At that point, we're going to try to push the commanders to get together to start talking strategy, rolls and units. I'm also going to support the use of ATC for both sides which is a great too for clans/teams to talk strategy before a match. http://www.playprepared.com/

So, over the next 24hrs, if you're on the list of locked-in players, watch this space closely. If you're a back-up player, also watch this list as you my get tagged if somebody bows out. Also, as we're hoping to run two games, maybe there will be an opportunity for a back-up to join in on the second game.

More soon!

Its still early in the week, but I finished getting DDR ready. Only their special forces (and variants) are not in yet. I will unlock them although they arent likely to make the 5/5 infantry cut unless they prove better at AA then expected in tests vs AI.

Skirmishing the AI with the theme deck has been a blast, although I am a bit to shy/fearfull too take them into ranked yet. :D

my UK list is more or less formalised as we speak, with a few tweaks on whether i pursue certain plans depending on tactical evaluation of the NATO side, but either way, expect some kind of relentless steamroller, YAY CHALLY's
