I have played some ranked games recently and I feel that 1500 points win condition fails. Too often I take map control and my opponent goes into hiding and retreats his last command vehicle into some corner trying to score points to win as I go look for his last units. It is ridiculous that player that completely looses all battles and all his ground can still win, as attacking in this game is seldom cost effective if you only have a few points that you can lose. I suggest 40 min total destruction and if a player does not control any zone he should start bleeding "kill points" to his opponent.

I have never ever ever ever found someone who retreats their CV into a forest, or who strings along a game when its obvious they've lost, even if they could.

Good for you. I got two of those in a short period of time. One was close in points ( about 1300-1300) and my opponent went into hiding, I ended up losing that game despite of having absolute map control and opponent controlling no zone at all, I did not save the replay in frustration but here is the other game http://replays.escalation.eu/?viewReplay=702 , I do not claim to have done very efficient job in ending the game, but the point is that such a low point cap makes it a unreasonable risk to end the game with honest attack.

I think this could work for for every game mode. I lost my Wargame Cup match due my bad play and good play from AgroQ. But at the end I got big map control and AgroQ got only one CV running to the hills to hide. Even I sucked there and lost crusial points, I manage to keep my three CV's alive and in zones but that didn't help me at all. (Yea, I know. This is whining - but what else you can do when you lose your match :D).

So, even timed games, if you don't control any zones, you start to leak points to opponent. This might work.

Maybe not to your opponent, but not being able to gain points. Perhaps lose them as well at a set rate, but again not to your opponent.

I have, and particularly on Fulda Gap it's extremely annoying. You can fill the map with all the recon units in your deck and it can still take you an hour to find that last CV.

Time limited games obviously don't have this problem, but in ranked matches it's a really annoying griefing strategy.

Hiding command vehicle is only one situation in which I have a real problem with ranked game settings. There was one game in Fulda gap in which things settled, after first battles, into situation where I got advantage in units, income and mapcontrol with control over the middle of the map. Me and my opponent both however were closing 1500 in kills so there was no way neither of us could have done anything offensive. The game finally ended up to be a draw after long artillery fight.

One might assume that 1500 point victory condition prevents spam from working, but it actually makes utilizing hard earned mapcontrol and income advantage way too risky. Its not good that your opponent can score to win with a couple of lucky atgm shots even if you outnumber him 10 to 1 and pull off good organized assault.
