You must have misread ... it was armed with an old 90mm when the Soviet were fielding T-80.
This thing packs as much punch as an AML-90!

I know the Germans had some prototype vehicle that had the HOT AT missile mounted on a massive extendable pole. it was controlled remotely from the ground but it seemed like a pretty awesome idea. trying to find pictures, will add them if I can find some, maybe it rings any bells?

strengths: ability to park behind a hill, extend its boom vertically and then fire two missiles.

weaknesses: missile was relatively inaccurate, and would have to be manually reloaded when the boom was retracted

fast, tracked platform, looks a little like a Marder. really wish i could remember the name of it. this is going to bug me all night now, dammit.

There were 2 systems that were being developed/tested. One was based on the Leopard 1 and was called "Panther". The other one was based on the Marder 1 and was called "Giraffe".

I read about a similar project somewhere, that was beeing pusued on the PACT side... by Yugoslavia, I believe...

The concept wasn't dropped after WW2, but in the mid-80's only ... At least, the latest one in service I can think of is the Bundeswehr's Kanonjagdpanzer

Sort of ASU-85 NATO equivalent on Jaguar 2 chassis. Could be actually worth using occasionally if it was part of some overall decent deck slot (like Raketenjagdpanzer/Jaguar).

So? You not able to give it AP 6-11 for gameplay reasons and HE 4 if you were to make it?
You gave many weapons HE 0 so that they work as intended. The BMP3 100mm got 0 AP. Raketenpanzer 1 can penetrate the front of a Leo2, is that realistic?

and btw the AML90 is a real killer, I destroyed stuff from bmp1 to tunguska with its cannon.

But the 100mm has 0 AP in the real life.

The HEAT round was only developed in the 90s.

Did you forget: "Mimimi T80s everywhere, make older tanks usefull again"

Kanonenjagdpanzer would very well fit into Wargame.

I didn't say it wouldn't fit, just saying that it would be an obsolete tank destroyer from the start.
But like the AML 90 or Zhalo, which are sporting the same caliber, it could be useful in an anti-vehicle/APC role instead ...

well, not exactly. i meant decent in the sense of: doing some damage under the right circumstances...But sure, you're right. facing a squad of t-80s using such a gun loaded with standard ap ammo would be, ehm, heroic? Or just an utmost fail :)

Still i'd like to point out what 4 1xxmm recoilless mounted on jeeps can do to W:EE-modelled MBTs in a close up-firefight. And not only to the sweet spot in their armor. From time to time I watched some soviet UAZ mounted RRs grind down Abrams. Just sayin' In these terms, the gun was decent^^

Why not include some niche units like those fixed gun Jagdpanzer-style units for NATO? could come in handy from time to time.

The ahistorical performance of HEAT rounds in this game is one of those things that bugs me, but you can't really make it realistic without rendering a huge number of units completely useless against modern MBTs. :?

You can always have ridiculous situations where a single M1A1 can take a battalion's worth of ATGMs and still fight on unscathed, in games like WinSPMBT!
